Reverend Dr. Elton T. Byrd was born on December 24, 1935 in Rock Bluff, Florida to the late William A. and Olivia B. Byrd. He received his primary and secondaryeducation in the local school system. He served nine years in the United States Armed Forces.
In 1964, Rev. Byrd received his ministerial license at Shalom Baptist Church in
Newport News, Virginia where he was ordained. In 1968, Rev. Byrd became the pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Newport News, Virginia where he ministered for seven years. and a Masters of Theology degrees. In 1970, Rev. Byrd received the Honorary
Doctorate of Divinity from Teamer School of Religion in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 1994, he was also bestowed with an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Martha’s Vineyard Theological Seminary of Oak Bluff, Massachusetts. in 1975,
Rev. Byrd was called to Pastor the Abyssinian Baptist Church of Newark, New Jersey were he ministered for seven years.
In May of 1982, God lead Rev. Byrd to organized the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Lead by the Holy Spirit, Fellowship has continued to be blessed spiritually and numerically. As a dynamic teacher Rev. Byrd has contributed the following articles “A Nation in Denial”, “The Black Man From A Religious Perspective”, and “Is Christ The Head of the Church?” for the Fellowship New Members Handbook and the Fellowship Media Ministries.
Rev. Byrd has received numerous awards, proclamations and letters of recognition from United States Presidents, Congressmen, State Governors,
Municipal Mayors, Hospitals, Community and Faith Organizations, which are too numerous to list. However, one of his most notable was his recognition as the Ambassador of Peace, presented in September 2002, by the Interreligious and International Federation of World Peace (IIFWP) at the United Nations in New York, NY. He was acknowledged as New Jersey’s first Ambassador of Peace because his philosophy as a minister is consistent with the IIFWP mission to establish world peace, advocate universal moral values, strong family life, interreligious cooperation, and international harmony.
Dr. Elton T. Byrd is married to the lovely and gracious Dr. Louberta Banks Byrd and has an endearing daughter, Eltonette Dionne and a precious
grandson Elton Daivon.
